WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 26, 2024) – In celebration of Women’s Equality Day, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a founding National Partner of the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation, announced a $350,000 gift to the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation.

“Since 1890, the Daughters of the American Revolution have been leaders in preserving America’s history and sharing America’s stories. DAR’s generous gift in support of establishing a permanent memorial in Washington, D.C. to the great women of American history is the continuation of an unmatched, century-long commitment to historic preservation,” said Anna Laymon, President and CEO of the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation. “It is therefore our honor to collaborate with the Daughters of the American Revolution to ensure that the commemorative landscape in our Nation’s Capital uplifts women’s contributions to American democracy and in doing so, shares a more complete American story.”

In addition, the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation named DAR President General Pamela Wright as a Foundation Ambassador.

The Daughters of the American Revolution’s donation is an important step towards the Foundation’s $75 million fundraising goal. Laymon added, “President General Wright understands that this country was built on the promise of equality for all, and that together, our two organizations share a duty to fulfill that founding promise. We are thrilled to welcome President General Wright as a Foundation Ambassador and celebrate her leadership.”

“The Daughters of the American Revolution is proud to be supporting the Women’s Suffrage National Monument. DAR was founded in 1890 as one of the nation’s early women’s organizations, in a time before women had the right to vote. As an organization dedicated to historic preservation, education and patriotism, we are committed to helping to commemorate and amplify the important history of the efforts that led to the ratification of the 19th Amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote,” said DAR President General Pamela Wright. “DAR is an organization of passionate, patriotic women who demonstrate the impact women can make in their local communities and across the country each and every day. We look forward to the Women’s Suffrage National Monument serving as a tribute to the incredible efforts of those who came before us as well as an inspiration for future generations to come!”
