U.S. Commission of Fine Arts Approves Site for Women’s Suffrage National Monument on the National Mall

WASHINGTON, D.C. – September 18, 2025 – The Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation today announced that the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) has officially affirmed the proposed site for the Women’s Suffrage National Monument on the National Mall. This decision represents a significant step in the effort to honor American women’s history as the project moves toward its review by the National Capital Planning Commission in October.

“We are incredibly grateful that the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) has officially affirmed the proposed site for the Women’s Suffrage National Monument on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. This landmark decision marks a significant milestone in our effort to honor American women’s history in our Nation’s capital,” said Anna Laymon, President and CEO of the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation.

The approved site, located in Constitution Gardens, was selected after a comprehensive review process. Its unique, park-like setting and proximity to other significant memorials mean it will complement the existing monumental landscape while offering visitors an opportunity to honor women’s history on the National Mall.

“This is an important benchmark for the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation and for everyone who has supported this effort,” Laymon added. “We are deeply appreciative of the Commission of Fine Arts’ thoughtful consideration. This affirmative vote is a key step forward, and we look forward to our presentation to the National Capital Planning Commission next month.”

The project is scheduled to go before the National Capital Planning Commission for review on October 9, 2025. Following the public comment period through the National Park Service and after gaining approval from the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC), the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation will begin the design phase.
