Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation Appoints Anna Laymon as Executive Director
Press Release | January 4, 2022
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, Anna Laymon was appointed as Executive Director of the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation (WSNMF). She is a nationally recognized leader in cultural institutions known for her dynamic, innovative, and inclusive approach to building organizations, managing teams, and sharing America's stories.
“It is an honor and a privilege to lead the effort to further women’s representation in our Nation’s Capital,” said Laymon. “It is long past time that American women’s history be memorialized in the beating heart of our country’s most important commemorative corridor.”
Prior to joining the Foundation, Anna served as the Executive Director of the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission and as the Director of Partnerships and Public Programs for the National Woman’s Party, the historic nonprofit founded in 1913 to ensure the passage of a suffrage amendment to the U.S. Constitution. As the Executive Director of the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission, she was instrumental in passing HR 473, the law authorizing the WSNMF to construct a memorial honoring women’s suffrage and the passage of the 19th amendment.
Laymon and the WSNMF Board will now work in partnership with the National Park Service to lead the effort to fund, design, and construct a national monument to serve as a lasting legacy of the early American movement for women's equality.
SUPPORT Amongst our most iconic monuments and memorials, American women’s stories are missing. Today, fewer than 5% of statues in our Nation’s Capital depict women. And we need your support. Like most monuments and memorials in Washington, D.C., the Women's Suffrage National Monument will be funded in its entirety through private donations.
