Women’s National Suffrage Monument Foundation Announces $1M Contribution from Women Moving Millions
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation is proud to announce it has received a $1,000,000 matching grant from the Women Moving Millions (WMM) Art Catalyst Matching Fund. This investment, specifically designated for general operating support, marks an important step in the Foundation’s mission to establish the first monument dedicated to women’s history on the National Mall.
The Women Moving Millions grant was made possible by the Art Catalyst Matching Fund established by Maja Kristin. It was contributed in recognition of the $1,000,000 gift made by Jessica Teal, a member of Women Moving Millions, to the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation.
“We are incredibly grateful for the visionary leadership of Jessica Teal and the Women Moving Millions community,” said Anna Laymon, President and CEO of the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation. “There is a poetic significance in this investment coming from a community of bold women who recognize that our history is our power. This contribution is a reminder that when women stand together to claim our place in the American story, we are an unstoppable force.”
“Through the Art Catalyst Matching Fund, we are ensuring that the stories of the women who waged the battle for the ballot are elevated to their rightful place of prominence in our nation’s capital,” said Jessica Teal, Founder of Teal Media and lead donor for the matching gift. “Just as the suffrage movement was carried by the support of women across the country, I hope this gift from Women Moving Millions inspires other philanthropic women across the country to support this historic monument.”
The Foundation recognized Jessica Teal’s transformative contributions in December 2025 with an inaugural Sentinel Award, honoring her role in defining the Foundation’s voice and vision.
“Art has the unique power to build bridges, heal, inspire, and connect us across differences,” said Sarah Haacke Byrd, CEO of Women Moving Millions. “We are proud to support the Foundation’s work and the historic efforts they are taking to ensure American women’s history is celebrated on the National Mall.”
Philanthropist and WMM member Maja Kristin, whose $10 million foundational investment launched the Art Catalyst Matching Fund, added: “By honoring these women through this monument, we are providing a source of inspiration for all Americans. This project is a testament to the fact that when we recognize the leadership of the past, we strengthen our foundation for generations to come.”
