Gwen Pier is the Executive Director of the National Sculpture Society, a not-for-profit arts organization whose programs include exhibitions, publications, an annual sculpture conference, and other public programs such as scholarships, grants, competitions, and educational events (lectures, tours, and panel discussions) that support sculptors and sculpture. The National Sculpture Society was founded in 1893 and is committed to encouraging sculptors and promoting sculpture in the United States.
Ms. Pier has worked in the arts for over thirty-five years, both in the commercial gallery and non-profit arenas. She is currently an officer on the board of the Fine Arts Federation of New York and is a member of the Saltus Medal Award Committee. She has served as a mentor to girls in public high schools through a program sponsored by the NYC Department of Education; served on the Great Women’s Sculpture Initiative Roundtable in 2018, hosted by the Metropolitan New York Chapter of the US National Committee for UN Women, a non-profit that works to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment; and currently serves on the Advisory Board for the W.E.B. Du Bois Sculpture Project.
She attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York (BA, English); the University of London, Goldsmith’s College in London, England; and Columbia University in New York City (M.S., Fundraising and Nonprofit Management).
