National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Donates $1,000,000 to The Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation

Daughters of the American Revolution Donates $1,000,000 to The Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation

WASHINGTON, D.C (August 26, 2025) – In honor of Women’s Equality Day, The Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation announced a total of $1,000,000 in contributions from The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Women’s Equality Day is commemorated on August 26 each year to mark the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which guaranteed women’s constitutional right to vote. This historic donation includes a new gift of $650,000 from DAR, which follows a previous donation to the monument of $350,000 given a year ago.

This transformative contribution comes at a pivotal moment in the project as the Foundation coordinates with federal planning agencies in our nation’s capital to finalize the ideal site for the monument on the National Mall.

As the Foundation plans for new women’s history programming on the National Mall to mark America’s 250th anniversary next year, this gift provides valuable momentum to those efforts.

Of the 40 monuments, memorials, and statues that currently exist on the National Mall – the most visited National Park in the United States – none are dedicated to the women who shaped American history. The goal of this project is to tell their stories.

“The DAR is pleased to support the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation as part of our work to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States,” said NSDAR President General Ginnie Sebastian Storage.

“We share a vision of honoring women’s contributions to American history, and this project provides a powerful opportunity to bring that vision to life in our Nation’s capital.”

In a continued display of commitment to the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation, DAR President General Ginnie Sebastian Storage has been named an Ambassador for the organization. She will join her predecessor, Pamela Wright, who serves in the same capacity. The appointment highlights the DAR’s deep and ongoing support for the creation of the first monument on the National Mall dedicated to women’s history. In a statement on her new role, Ginnie Storage said, “As an Ambassador, I am proud to help champion this monument, which will stand as a testament to the perseverance and bravery of the suffragists and inspire future generations.”

“This generous gift is particularly meaningful because it comes from the Daughters of the American Revolution, an organization built on the strength and service of women,” said Anna Laymon, President and CEO of the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation. “It is fitting that a group that emphasizes historic preservation, patriotism, and women’s leadership is an early champion for creating what will be the first monument on the National Mall dedicated to women’s history.”
