WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the Women’s Suffrage National Monument Foundation announced that it has received permission from the National Capital Memorial Advisory Commission (NCMAC) to proceed with consultations with the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) and the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC) regarding potential sites on the National Mall for a monument dedicated to the women’s suffrage movement.
Following Congress’s authorization of a new monument, the next step is a detailed site selection process. NCMAC plays a crucial advisory role. Their recommendation is a key milestone in the process of building a new monument.
This significant step follows productive meetings NCMAC held with the Foundation on July 23, 2025, and May 12, 2025, during which Foundation President and CEO Anna Laymon presented a site selection study and addressed the commission’s considerations. The NCMAC’s permission to move forward is a crucial milestone in the process to build the first monument on the National Mall dedicated to American women’s history.
“We are grateful for NCMAC’s recommendation and their guidance as we move closer to establishing a prominent tribute to the pioneering women of American history,” said Anna Laymon. “This is an important moment for the project, and we look forward to continuing our work with our federal partners to finalize a location for this long-overdue monument.”
