“For example to create the multi-million dollar Ohio Women's Monument, I immersed myself in the lives of these women from the 1830's to the 20th century. The monument is designed to promote the struggle for universal suffrage, equality and justice while evoking the modern women's movement today.”
The proposed monument in Washington should prompt active engagement by visually expressing the courage and heroic status of activist women, who sacrificed enormously to continue the momentum forward. It will be vital to express the ongoing pursuit of equality and issues relevant today. Visual Ideas that suggest that while tradition provides a foundation, true advancement comes from challenging established norms and embracing new possibilities. It will be important to honor the past while continuing to move forward towards a more inclusive and active future. The monument should inspire and symbolize the legacy of achievement passed to future generations...and that all women have a responsibility to carry that legacy forward. Designing a monument in Washington that will express the suffrage movement should include the modern era that will inspire and inform future generations.
